Sahara - Apollonia, Libya
Libya was once known as the breadbasket of Rome, and dotted all along the coast between Tobruk and Tripoli are some of the most spectacular and unspoiled Roman ruins in the world. (top left) We found these impressive marble columns of the Eastern Basilica at Apollonia, seaport for the city of Cyrene, first settled by the Greeks around 630 BC.
