Day 100: Seronera to Lake Manyara
Kalului, small and wiry, with his energetic, humorous face that can easily turn truculent, has become too close a companion to submit tamely to an interview, and when we do get him in front of the camera he has fun turning some of my questions back on me. 'What tribe are you from?' he asks.'British Middle Class,' I reply staunchly. It doesn't have quite the same ring as Akamba.
We drive on south-east passing the end of the Olduvai Gorge, in which Louis and Mary Leakey, and more recently Donald Johanson, found some of the earliest human remains on the planet, including, at nearby Laetoli, a 3.6-million-year-old footprint trail preserved in solidified volcanic ash.
