Around the World in 80 Days
Day 7: 1 October

Later, whilst Passepartout sorts out the film he's shot of this day's madness, I take a walk for a late-night look at the Nile. A brutal network of flyovers bars my way and I end up lost. A courteous Egyptian helps me out. He asks me where I'm from and what I think of the weather.
'A little hot for me.'
He laughs. 'This is very nice. It's the first time it has been below 95 for weeks.'
Back in my room, the bathtap produces only dreadful bronchial shudders and a thin trickle of water before sinking into total unconsciousness. There's a washbasin, but no plug, and the lavatory's unflushable. However, I work out an Emett-like temporary solution involving twisting a coat hanger around the ball cock. Later discover it's my only coat hanger.
