Sahara - The Hoggar Mountains, Algeria

Sahara - The Hoggar Mountains, Algeria
Sunset over the Hoggar Mountains. In 1911, the ascetic French missionary Charles de Foucauld built a refuge at Assekrem. He had a close relationship with the Touaregs of the Hoggar Mountains, and produced the first French-Tamahaq dictionary. He lived in isolation
and looked out on this view for five years, until the day he was murdered in Tamarasset. On his way to the hermitage, Michael pauses to contemplate the splendid silence.
