AN EVENING WITH MICHAEL PALIN |
In aid of The Michael Palin Centre for Stammering Children 6pm, Sunday 26th March 2006 at The Duke of York’s Theatre, St Martin’s Lane, London WC1 Michael Palin will be re-living his Himalayan adventures with the help of Basil Pao’s stunning photographs and giving a magical mystery tour of some of his favourite comedy material. All proceeds from the evening will directly support the work of the Centre. Michael’s father had a severe stammer and he saw at first-hand the devastating effects this can have on family life. You can hear Michael talking about the Centre's work here. A child with a severe stammer can become isolated and withdrawn, finding it hard to make friends, often too afraid to contribute in class and frequently a victim of teasing and bullying in the playground. "Boys are nasty to me at school and sometimes I think they really mean it... I think I'm the only one in the world who has this problem" - Dan, aged 7. The Michael Palin Centre for Stammering Children was opened in 1993 and has helped over 2,500 children and young adults aged 2-18, from all over the UK. The Centre provides therapy, tailored to each youngster’s needs, personality and circumstances, involving the family at every stage. "You have given me the most fantastic support and inspiration. Keep up the brilliant work!" - Emma, aged 15. "We felt heartened and hopeful - not for a 'cure' but for a sense of direction" - Parents. Please join us for a very special evening at the Duke of York’s Theatre on 26 March and help us to continue to transform the lives of children and young people who stammer.
