Oh God you're kidding? Of all the amazing people on this planet they get nominated?? Previous Nobel peace prize winners must be horrified!

I can't believe they'd even think of putting them in the league of the likes Nelson Mandela or my personal favourite, Jose Ramos Horta!!

shouldn't we see how this whole thing really turns out before nominating bush for the nobel peace prize? The country (area) is still in turmoil from the sounds of things!

Just to clarify something - the nomination process for the Nobel Peace Prize is nothing to do with the Nobel jury itself. Certain groups of people (political leaders, academics etc.) are free to nominate whoever they like. This is why in recent times over 100 people have been nominated for the prize each year. If someone is nominated then the jury must at least consider them. Fortunately the jury seems to have a fair bit of wisdom - a look at the list of recent winners shows some worthy winners. As for this years prize we will still have to wait until December to find out...

(Sorry if I sound like a bore - peace research was my field at university and it interests me a great deal.)

I looked up the Nobel website www.nobel.se and there is nothing about this years nominees. Do we know where this information came from?

Cheers

Thank you Steve... I had wondered about that....
Anyway, the info is hard to find. I told my hubby, and he replied with a "yeah, you didn't know that?" He knew, but he is an information hound. Bless him.
I found more info by plugging "Nobel peace prize nominations" into a search engine. And the Onion has a wonderful spoof on it...
www.theonion.com, check the May 14 headlines.
It is surprising that it is not widespread news. You'd think mainstream media would jump all over this.. I am thinking this info "leaked" out when it wasn't supposed to.
I'm still optimistic. I think they don't have a chance in hell.
To quote Wayne's World,"Bush and Blair winning the Nobel Peace Prize? Shyeah, and monkeys will fly out of my butt."
I will ask my source where they obtained their information, too.
'til later!
Peace,
Helen

Nope, it's not going to happen.

I actually voted for Bush , but I have to say that this nomination makes no sense at all. I was shocked at the announcement.

I'm a bit dumbfounded myself.
