To Diamond - MPFC had the title "Farewell to John Denver" on their Contractual Obligation Album, but I don't think anything made it onto the album ("and now the sound of JD being strangled..." JD sued, of course).
Probably because they hated his music?

However, I miss the JD specials, too -- he was the only "Western" in "Country & Western", which, you may have noticed, is now just "Country." His specials were not only in Colorado, but also Alaska, Canada & somewhere in the ocean with Jacques Cousteau. He also did a Christmas special with Steve Martin (with a butterfly pinned to his nose, singing "Be courteous, kind & forgiving," which somehow segued into "Be oblong & have your knees removed." Hysterical!).

Actually, there is another JD song (sorry, MP) that IMO illustrates MPs spirit of adventure, his inquisitiveness of & appreciation for local cultures, and the disquiet he feels at Western/modern intrusion:

Up in a meadow in Jasper, Alberta
Two men and four ponies on a long, lonesome ride
To see the high country and learn of her people
The ways that they lived there, the ways that they died
One is a teacher, and one a beginner
Just wanting to be there, wanting to know
And together theyre trying to tell us a story
That should have been listened to long, long ago
How the life in the mountains is living in danger
From too many people, too many machines

Have you ever seen the JD wildlife concert video?? it is so moving!

But we digress - which is what a good palinite always does somehow!!!

Interesting topic...
For me, I have to say it's a song called "Michael & George", and it's on my new album, to be released in a couple of months. I'll let you all know when it's out, if you're interested... (my website is at leequick.com)

all my best,
Lee

btw, Michael's song "Finland" keeps coming back to me whenever I travel...I'll hum it compulsively, usually substituting the name of the place I'm in, if it fits ("Nashville, Nashville, Nashville, the city where I quite want to be") or even if it doesn't (Guntersville, Guntersville, Guntersville...)

I don't know why, but I'll Follow the Sun by the Beatles.

One day you'll look to see I've gone
For tomorrow may rain, so I'll follow the sun
Some day you'll know I was the one
But tomorrow may rain, so I'll follow the sun

And now the time has come
And so my love I must go
And though I lose a friend
In the end you will know, oooh

One day you'll find that I have gone
But tomorrow may rain, so I'll follow the sun

Yeah, tomorrow may rain, so I'll follow the sun
And now the time has come
And so my love I must go
And though I lose a friend
In the end you'll know, oooh

One day you'll find that I have gone
But tomorrow may rain, so I'll follow the sun

John Denver is one of my favourite singers. He was at a ballgame not far from my house right before he died and I kicked myself for never getting to see him. I did donate some money to get him a memorial bench in NY, but I haven't seen it, yet. I hate when people laugh when you mention him. A lot of his songs were so incredible and meaningful.

Anyway, I'll Follow The Sun....makes me think of Mr. Toad's Wild Ride. :)
