Figuring Out Where to Hold the Block Party.Re: Two Months Already? by tucsonmike on 23 December 2005 1:04am

I have been taking time out from writing and putting together my Eastern European curriculum.

In my fevered insanity I came up with several locations.
Melbourne-We have several Australians and I figured they end up doing all the International traveling. It could be the Palin Express round OZ. Maybe the Aussies could put it together as a media event. I had it in mind as an International thing 'cause of the riots, which BTW made last weeks Economist.

China-It would be a (relatively) short trip for the Aussies and interesting for everyone else.

Eastern Europe-Camp followers for Mr. P? Maria, this is your big chance to show off Slovakia.

United Kingdom. I remember the thread about best places in the U.K. A Hebridean Island a la Castaway?

United States-Either Washington D.C. Atlanta or San Antonio.

Mexico?-George and I live close enough to the border and are somewhat familiar.

Layne we promise, we wont pull a Sherman and make trouble. I told the Romance Writers of America they had to behave.

I vote for Mexico, maybe Baja - affordable, fun, and a quick trip from cheap flights into L.A. Too bad my uncle just sold his house there or I'd invite everyone to come and camp out on the beach....

For a welcome change, I'll be serious. I played with my Great Circle website in more detail. The two locations that came up as the most "central" (how do you have most central on a globe)? are
Honolulu
Beijing
They are the places that would have the least travel for all. Hawaii is expensive though, so that has to be kept in mind. We are poor camp followers after all. Sorry, I said I would be serious...

I'd like to put this to a contest if there is interest. I thought of Australia as I said before. I didn't want to choose Tucson (as much as I would like to show it off and local ability to publicize) because of lack of ease in getting here. Unless people want it.

Others can think of a "theme" for their location and maybe to raise money for something as a way to publicize. Now, I am just brainstorming. I'll come up with more useful ideas later.
Mike

Hi Mike, at first I thought of a nice party for Layne, but you are preparing already a kind of Michael-Palin-Convention. Keep going, that's becoming great. And don't forget to invite our guest of honour himself.

Woah!! Look what we've started!

:-D

I'm up for a convention. Hehe! I would need to fundraise, of course. It would have to be a summertime thing, or a long weekend deal. I've already missed too much school as it is. But, first as a silly "party" idea, this is seeming more and more tempting. It would be *great* to be able to see everybody--even the Man himself, if we could pester him enough. Who knows, maybe if I "threaten" him with another one of my ten page letters and yet another dvd, he'll oblige. ;-)

lol!! Putting up with me, tolerating, humoring...etcetera. It's all fun and games until someone loses an eye, Mike! Poking fun at me, the darling little blonde Southern girl. I see how it is. Suuuure ;-) :-D

I'll save my free shot. It could come in handy in the future.

I agree with Holle! Keep up the planning! Don't keep me in the dark, either! I think this is amazing!! Though it might be difficult to pull off, it really sounds like it'd be a whole lot of fun!!

Atlanta is fun. There's a bunch of new attractions here--like Atlantic Station off the perimeter, in Downtown Atlanta. It's this big community with apartments, condominiums, cluster homes--with an outdoor mall-type thing. Everything in Atlantic Station is able to be walked to. Very cute place. Not sure about meeting places there, but it's a big attraction.

Hehe, this is cool.

Yes, Mike, are you serious about this? Are other people interested? Hmmmm, would be fun....

I hope people are interested. What an amazing story it would be! A big group of Mr. Palin fans, gathering because of a silly two month anniversary thread! I'd have to say, it's a book in the making ;-)

Well, in true Palin-style, if we're going to meet up it has to be somewhere inhospital, middle of nowhere town that is actually quite fascinating and friendly.
Or at my place, whatever is good for you. lol ;)
I know I'm a bit late to jump into this thread now, but what you said Layne was very sweet and I'm glad you're enjoying this place. I've been in and out of PT since July last year and I've made some wonderful people here, friends who I hope to continue to know for a long time. Michael has done a great job by bringing people together like this.

About fundraising if people could just raise the money for me that would be great! I've got to raise £3095 by 2007, and it aint happening! We all went bag-packing in Sainsburys yeterday, SOOOOOOOOOOOOO boring! its put me off Xmas shopping for life!

Actually, there were a surprising number of pineaples bought for Christmas.........

I think this is an excellent idea. Perhaps we could have one on each continent so that most people would stand a chance of attending. Linz
