Michael Palin 1969-1979 The Python Years by LeoLouise on 6 July 2007 9:59am

What did everyone think?

I was quite surprised by a lot of things that were said to be honest.

Fantastic book: so very well put. This man can WRITE! It got my interest really going again & led to me joining this site.
I'm a sucker for diaries anyway, but so much of what he writes, opinions, etc. chime with mine.
Can't wait for the next episode, not due till 2009 I believe. It's to be subtitles The Film Years?

I am ashamed to say that I have had the book since Christmas and haven't started to read it yet!

You haven't? It's wonderful! I second Linda's words, I find myself agreeing with a lot of what he writes. He writes beautifully anyway.

The next book is to be The Film Years. In two years, Amazon.co.uk here I come! Again. :)

Yes, a good read.

I thought the next one would be called something like that.

My question is, what about the third one, presumably something like (if the second is 1980-1990) 1991-2001?

Presumably this would be The Travelogue Years,(and if so what will 2002-20?? be called? The Palinstravel Years??!!) but as most of the details of his travels are already public in the form of TV series and/or books will he miss those segments out? Sort of have big gaps?

I know ATWI80D was 1988 so my question sort of overlaps the books.

Just something I have been thinking about since I read The Python Years.

How many is he planning on writing then? I agree by the way, it's a great read but the again anything Michael writes is!

I am just assuming that he puts in 'print' all the diaries he has written to date (or to the date of the last book, if you see what I mean!) He could theoretically go on forever - or at least until...sob...the end of his life

I thbink he intends to publish 3 in all, of which the first one is already out. I think (I read this in an interview with him with SAGA magazine, of all things,I found this by googling Michael Palin). The 3rd one I'd guess would be 'The Travelling Years'as Anne says. My guess as to why he may stop at 1999? He's slowing down workwise, but yes, he writes so well I can read him forever.

Suze and Mary, you are in for a treat a) when you get round to reading your copy b) when it gets to USA - it'll be a lot cheaper there than UK, I bet
