Policing in the U.K. by tucsonmike on 18 July 2007 4:12am

I was looking @ the Copperfield blog (thanks Wheelrim).

I still have the view of a Britain as a less crime ridden, more civilized place than the U.S. (Then again, our crime rate had been dropping. If I really want to see nasty crime, I will cross the border to the nastier places in Mexico).

Things are actually getting worse here Mike, especially England ( you know I'm Scottish) but that is where the population centres are. And the multiculturalism, which does'nt seem to work for them. You know I like to have the odd little dig at you're country *really John? * but I think if we had you're gun culture ( separate issue) we would have a comparable, or I suspect, higher death rate (through murder ). I, for one, would'nt be here ! There have been a lot of people over the years, who would've drawn a gun on me rather than thrown a punch !

I saw more crime there in a week Mike, than I've seen in my whole life in Australia. We were even involved in an armed holdup and a gunman held the staff hostage at gunpoint for 3 hours. London is scary.

Kazzz, 6 months driving round Aus I saw nothing to concern me crime-wise, IF I could get a Visa I would be on the first plane out of here, The thing I did notice though was the pride most Aussies have in their country, sure, I am very proud of our past, Britian has been hugely influential in the world, but its present and its future is bleak... Gissa Job!

It's so hard to get a visa to work here, it makes little sense as our population is growing and we have so many more resources that a lot of other countries, and a supposedly growing economy. Interestingly though, people from places like the Phillipines and similar are welcomed with visas practically thrown at them. Our government does love a bit of hard work and cheap minimum wage labour and that the workers ask for little in return. It's not that great here Wheelrim, I'm not one of these fiercely patriotic Australians I'm afraid.

Why would'nt you get a visa Wheelnut ?

Kazzzz, You should (and I am sure you do) realise when you are well off, whenever I talk to a whinger who bemoans `oh, woe is me, my life is so crap` etc. I always reply with.... watch the Six O`clock news tonight and tell me afterwards that you are hard done-by, look today, first item, Plane crash in Brazil, affects so many.
JTM, Cannot get a legit Visa now, just clicked over the 45 year old margin, but thanks for the concern(?).

Being 45 would not exclude you from Australia Wheelnut. Have you been a bad cop ? ( is there any other type of cop !)

Re: Policing in the U.K. by Wheelrim on 18 July 2007 12:11pm

Not worth being a bad cop JTM, And in saying that I do not have a Police Pension to worry about anyway, I opted out. Life is too short to worry tooooo far ahead, I have only been in the Job 5 years, it`s not a career, I help people on a day-to-day basis, being a Police Officer has many drawbacks, the Job, believe it or not, gets predictable at times, 50% of the time I feel I am a social worker and that is not why I joined, I am no saint, but I know the difference between right and wrong, there are som bastards out there, lots of them, who do not give a hoot for anyone else but themselves, or give a toss about their property, THAT is wrong, THEY are the ones who need locking up. I try my best but we cannot be everywhere, I do not lay in wait with a speed camera just to get brownie points, but if someone is driving like a cock, thereby endangering my childs (and yours) life, yeah, they will get a ticket for sure... right and wrong, its the only thing that matters in the end.
