On January 25, 2007, s bill was proposed to the U.S senate to ban LGBT (lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgendered)marriage, civil union, domestic partnership or any similar relationship for same-sex couples.
It would be the first time rights would be taken away from people rather than given. It goes against the 9th amendment reading:
9.The enumeration in the Constitution, of certain rights, shall not be construed to deny or disparage others retained by the people.

Yes.
If they are that way inclined they can do it without getting married.
Most ordinary marriages produce children but without medical intervention this is impossible in LBGT consummation.
Lots of ordinary couples live together without getting married anyway - it's quite an expensive business!
There is a legal civil partnership which is a similar arrangement but it is not called marriage.

But it would take all rights away, partnership, anything that gives them similar rights to heterosexual couples, even now, GLBT people can't get their partners social security funds when they day because it isn't a 'traditional' marriage.
