Does anyone have any thoughts on this film? I watch it with my 8 year old daughter every now and again. It is a nice story. Just thought I'd get the thoughts of anyone more familiar with Ireland.

The trailer looks like a load of pish. Take your daughter to Ireland and treat both of you. I've only visited Ireland twice and have yet to see the wonders of Donegal but would gladly move to 'The Emerald Isle'. The Irish, run us Scots, a close second to being the best people on earth.

Okay.
It IS a kid's movie, JTM. (you really ARE a curmudgeon, you know), so you have to kind of take it in stride, I guess. At least the child doesn't end up pregnant or on crack. That is refreshing...

Well, JTM, I have to agree with you. I found the Scottish people absolutely lovely---warm, welcoming, polite and friendly. Quite delightful. I have never been to Eire, but they have nearly the same reputation.

The idea of the Scottish being dour wasn't something I always found to be true. The mention of that trait can be found in most books describing the Scots . Why does this viewpoint exist, or better worded, why is it part of their being??

Is that right? Why are they like that, do you think?

Patty, get the book The Scotch-Irish in America. He explains it there.

Is it really entitled "Scotch-Irish......", Mike? I thought it should be Scottish, Wonder if the title, spelled that way, is explained inside and helps to define the reason.

Thanks, I might try to find that at the library. You wouldn't happen to know the author, would you?

Or Scots-Irish? Maybe our tame Scotsman JtM can tell us the correct way.
