NEW EUROPE- AVOIDING SERBIA by koja on 5 April 2008 2:11pm

MICHAEL, I JUST FINISHED WATCHING YOUR DOCUMENTARY ON EASTERN EUROPE, AND I WAS AMAZED HOW YOU SUCCEDED IN AVOIDING ONE OF EURPOES MOST BEAUTIFUL CITY'S: BELGRADE. I MUST SAY THAT I WAS ANOYED TO SEE THAT ALL YOU TALKED ABOUT IN THE SHOW WAS THE WAR, WHICH MOST PEOPLE DONT LIKE TALKING ABOUT. WHEN I SAW THE PREVIEW OF THE SHOW I THOUGHT I WOULD BE GREAT TO SHOW THE PEOPLE IN OTHER PARTS OF THE WORLD, THE WONDERFUL BALKANS, NO MATTER WHAT COUNTRY IT IS. BUT ALL YOU WERE GOING ABOUT IS THE DAMN WAR!!!!!
AND TO SPEND 10 MIN OF THE PROGRAMME TALKING ABOUT MINES JUST OUT OF SARAJEVO, AND JUST GLIMPES OF THE BEAUTIFUL BELGRADE AND AVOIDING THE MOUNTAINS AND COAST OF MONTENEGRO,THAT IS JUST NOT ON!!!!!
BLJAK!!!!

It used to be the same about Northern Ireland when the news covered terrost activities there years ago.
Unfortunately wars are difficult to ignore if you are visiting a place and I'm glad he didn't visit all the big cities of all the European countries he went to. You also say there were glimpses of Belgrade so he didn't avoid it and if you read his messages you'll find a statement which says something like the eight or so programmes allocated to the series were not enough for such a diverse range of countries in his tour.

Well said, Ken.
It's awful that wars are fought, anywhere, but it often seems to be the case they're fought over THE most beautiful landscapes. And as time goes on memories will fade & references will lessen. But I agree MP was right not to ignore it.

I too agree with koja and many more others. Why michael show a documentary of your travels when you cannot film all the beauty of that country. Serbia and montenegro are something worth showing. There are so many beautiful places to visit in belgrade, the parks, churches, mountains kopaonik, Ostrog in montenegro. I hope you will review our comments and reconsider on refilming your visit to serbia and also visit montenegro! Borka
