Saw the most recent episode of Sahara (Absolute Desert) last night and was intrigued by the mealtime exchanges between Michael and the Tuareg.

The 'TEGIL-LA!' that led to so much hilarity is a heavily accented rendering of the Arabic 'ta'kuluha', or 'you eat it'. I think they were trying to tell him he was eating the bread the wrong way, that he should eat it the way they were doing. In this context, 'Issan' (ahsan - better) would make sense.

As for the following morning (Day 67?), al-futur is 'breakfast' in Arabic, and 'shai' is the Arabic word for 'tea'.

I'm not sure how much Arabic there is in the Tuareg language (which Michael says is called Tamahak) but these words are all Arabic.

That is very interesting, I was reading 'Full Circle' the other day (well skimming really) and I found that when he is in Vancouver and talking about how everything is in two languages, he said ou/where which means "or/where" he forgot the "`" over the u so it should've been "où" which is "where." Aye, I'm French born, so I found that...très intéressant
