Going to bring the 2nd bathroom to the ISS! Okay, my job is done here.

LOL!

I'm not joking!

They're bringing more crew quarters. Someone must be sharing a bedroom up there - there are fewer rooms than crew members! And a 2nd toilet, and a functioning "kitchenette." The voice of mission control said they're taking home improvement to a whole new level. Really, I'm not kidding!

I heard one of the astronauts on NPR say they are very happy to be getting a fridge. She said something like: "believe it or not, drinking lukewarm orange juice for months can really get to you."

Here is the local cable news page. I link to it because it includes night launch footage. It was really nice!!

http://www.cfnews13.com/Space/DestinationSpace/2008/11/15/endeavour_crew_begins_first_day_in_space.html

The story references the door to the "white room." (enter Ginger Baker & Cream now!) That's the room on the launch gantry, NOT part of the Shuttle, in which the astronauts are dressed for launch, from which they are buckled into their seats. The outside door was flapping around before the launch. Mission Control saw it from one of the fixed cameras. It's never happened before, and they were scurrying to find it in the Mission Control "What to do if" manuals, or whatever they're called! And it couldn't be found, so Mission Control made an executive decision that moment to go ahead with launch.

All is well.

Great picture of the launch on NASA's Astronomy Picture of the Day:

That is an excellent pic, that about sums it up. Full moon and everything.

A bag of tools was lost during one of the spacewalks. It isn't known whether it was human error or materials failure, but it wasn't secured as it was supposed to be. The object will not interfere with anything up there. Other than that, it's hunky-dory up there.

Thanks for the news Cori. Your posts about shuttle launches reminds me to think about the on-going ISS project and I always hope nothing goes wrong.

Well, if I have a "job" on this message board, this is it! And I'm usually pretty lax at it!
