Rwandan Book?! by tucsonmike on 13 February 2009 1:00pm

My partner in crime @ work, Anastase came to our writers meeting last night. He wants to write a book about his experiences, which are 180 degrees from the Sudanese guys.
He brought his six year old son Cadeau with him last night. Cadeau is a cute, smart, precocious kid. The staff at the Village Inn loved him. The other customers, except one elderly couple loved him. They were enraged the staff was paying so much attention to him. Oh well, there is no pleasing some people.

Isn't that ridiculous? I swear...

Old people often think children should be seen and not heard, that paying attention to them is indulgent and will "spoil" them. It's how *they* were brought up; they're probably just jealous.

Wow, a thread digression in three posts! That must be a record.

Good luck with the book, if you're going to be working on it Mike. And good luck to Anastase in getting it written.

I take Ava to a weekly meeting and everyone there is fine with her, she trots about sitting on people's laps and showing them her toys, people have told me it's lovely to have her there. All except for one woman who pointedly ignores her and gives me filthy looks.
Ah well!!! Miserable old bat ;)

She gets nothing more than she deserves. Really. Too bad she doesn't know what she's missing.

I can understand if Ava were older and yelling and screaming about generally being a nuisance, but yeah...THAT woman's not going to get one of her hugs!

THAT woman's not going to get ANYONE'S hugs! Maybe a few younger single people will sympathize with her. But if they feel that way about kids, they probably have no patience for old people, either.

I suspect there was a racial element to the older couple. I heard the Deep South drawls. They were dressed to the nines, like they were coming from church.
