G20 Summit. by tucsonmike on 2 April 2009 2:17pm

OK, y'all, what is going to come of it? Can the world come up with an agreement that pleases most of it? The blueprint isn't much. Just to save the world.

Good topical talking-point,tucsonmike!

The trouble is,I don't see these 20 so-called 'leaders'(mostly men) as representative of the true people.
They have got diverted today onto talking about cracking down on tax-havens such as Liechtenstein,so I can't see them taking the most important subject (Climate Change) seriously or doing anything about it for the better, sorry.

I know this is a controversial subject, but the latest, and by that I mean, the last couple years, is that scientists are now saying there really hasn't been global warming after all. I've never bought into that fully anyway, so maybe I was on the right track from the start. It's interesting how scientists are beginning to go back on that theory.

How come they never discuss 'the elephant in the room'........population growth ?

Re: G20 Summit. by mrsthing on 3 April 2009 12:49am

Whether or not there's global warming, it makes sense to take better care of the planet, doesn't it? Pollution and resource plundering are still major problems even if the melting ice caps won't make Mike's house waterfront property.

It seems they're pouring money into the problem, which I don't see as much of a solution. But I haven't got any better ideas.

You're absolutely right, johnny. We have too many humans producing far too many other human beings to have a sustainable planet. I have never understood why the "growth" that political and economic systems lust after is not measured in quality instead of quantity.

The answer is, of course, the education of women. Educated women produce fewer babies but ones that have a better chance to thrive.
