I was gone, now I'm back by mrsthing on 15 August 2009 4:57pm

Sorry, it's been awhile. I can't begin to catch up on all the posts! I was on vacation in Ithaca, NY, and we're one computer down so I have much less time on the computer. And there was a row over at Cleese's (resolved; we're all still friends) that I got involved in and took a week or so to sort out. And now I'm off to look for some school clothes for Alexandra.

I hope you're all well. I'll try to be better about staying in touch.

Heck! MATRON must have been in the trenches in the Army in the First World War!
...Or maybe she was in the Women's Land Army in the Second World War?
These brave industrious women wore green jerseys, brown breeches (i.e.shorts) and brown felt hats and worked extremely hard long days doing milking duties, general farmwork, driving purple tractors, cutting down brown trees, working in sawmills, and so on... They would live in hostels,or on the farms themselves where they worked. Part of their job was growing food such as leeks and other vegetables. They also had the job of controlling pests such as rats who would try to eat the crops. Without these ladies Britain would have won the war but the soldiers would have come back home to find their families had all died of starvation. So I salute you,MATRON,you are one of the finest ladies I have ever heard from and your country is proud of you.
