ev that third one down, McArthur's map was the first one of these sort of maps and was designed by my high school maths teacher who made a fortune out of them. I've seen them in airports all over the world. I have a signed one :)

My mother had a 1st cousin, born and raised in the USA. He was in the Navy during WW2 on a destroyer. They were off the coast of Japan, 2 miles out, when the Americans dropped the bombs. He told me that when they were given the okay to go in, they did. I don't know if he was delerious or just filling me with rubbish but he said there were maps of the world on the walls of a school classroom. America was tiny and Japan was huge. Maybe he was just seeing things, who knows!

I don't doubt that story, Loretto. Propaganda goes a long way in the minds of people, especially kids.

These are interesting. I like the underground map! Trouble is, I had trouble finding Britain on any of them! But you have a point. I mean, who decided that the North Pole should be at the top of the map anyway?

In Australia the North Pole is at the bottom... the South Pole is at the top... And Australia is, of course, in the very center of the map.
