Children in Need by suzulu on 20 November 2010 9:40pm

Did anyone see this last night? The stories are heartrending.

I can't believe that Terry Wogan has been doing the programme for 30 years.

I usually watch it, Sue, but didn't this year. However I watched the 'highlights' on Sunday.

I must say tears are never far away when watching it.

Also - I know Terry Wogan is sometimes seen as a bit of a joke but I think he's good on progs like this (and was EXCELLENT on Eurovision - I laughed from start to finish when he was on!!). I'm old enough to remember him on Radio 1 too!!

:)

I like Terry Wogan a lot. I used to watch his chat-show when I was younger. He was more entertaining than Parkinson ever was.

Oh yeah Terry S, fully agree. Wogan is funny, and Parkinson really get's a kick out of him in this interview;

Did Wogan ever interview Michael Palin I wonder?

Up until a couple of years ago, Terry Wogan was paid a fee for doing Children in Need. All the other presenters and celebrities worked for free ( apart for the publicity it gained them. )

Maybe he gave his fee to Children in Need?

Re: Children in Need by johnnythemonkey on 24 November 2010 8:43pm

Aye right. He trousered thousands for 27 years.

OK, but I'd love to know the sources responsible for making this statement and who knows John, maybe Wogan donates to charity privately, without all the Jolie Pitt fanfare we've become accustomed to?

"He is reported to be the only celebrity paid for his participation in Children in Need, having received a fee every year since 1980 (£9,065 in 2005). Wogan, however, has stated that he would "quite happily do it for nothing" and that he "never asked for a fee". The BBC stated that the fee had "never been negotiated". Wogan's fee has been paid from BBC resources and not from the Children in Need charity fund.[21] There is no record, however, of Wogan ever having repaid his fee from previous years."

Oh, well, there's still the humanitarian hope that he donated the money privately.
