Bahrain by bIG bLOGGER on 18 February 2011 3:16pm

The media seem to be moving on now from Tunisia and Egypt, to Bahrain,a small Gulf State,a Monarchic Kingdom, which was a British colony before independence in 1971,since when the Sunni-Moslem Al-Khalifa Family have ruled over it with an authoritarian regime.

The protesters in Manama, the capital city, seem to be swelling in number by the day, but at the same time the Government seems firmly resolved not to allow another Tunisia or Egypt-style revolution to occur in Bahrain.

So what will the eventual outcome be??

Bahrain is important to the West in several respects:
Bernie Ecclestone is watching because he wants his Formula-1 Grand Prix in March to go ahead. The Americans are watching because they park their warships in the port and because Bahrain is a significant OIL exporter.

If the demonstrators in Bahrain win, expect a potential war, Saudi Arabia vs. Iran.

Just so you know, F1 in Bahrain has been cancelled.

Libya is a real tough case.. that bum Gadaffi has no qualms in attacking his own people with full force.. let's pray the Libyans can kick him out.. 40 years of brutal dictatorship.. he's even flying in mercenaries from other African countries to help him with this current crackdown.. it's unbelievable really..

And you can see in this slideshow all the slimy 'world leaders' who were happy to line up and shake his hand.. cos 'there's oil in them there hills...':

There is an AP report out today that the King of Bahrain has agreed to meet one of the protesters' demands to release some political prisoners, and to halt some trials in progress of Shiite activists accused of plotting against the regime.
This has been received as "a positive gesture" by the opposition.

At least the King is willing to negotiate and talk, whereas that renegade Mafiosi, that Arab Hitler, Mr. Mad-Dog-gone-more-rabid-than-ever, Muammar Gadaffi, would rather pump out phoney propaganda and deny having his own people shot dead in the streets.

I would assume because the governing body, or Bernie, or whoever, figured it would be too dangerous.
