It seems the 'cost of living' isn't an issue for the folks in the Economist Intelligence Unit.. most of the cities in that list are really expensive.. for example, here's how much you pay for renting a flat in Vienna:

http://www.wg-gesucht.de/wohnungen-in-Wien.163.2.0.0.html

Sorry it's in German.. 'Zimmer' is for how many rooms (rooms, not bedrooms), the 'Miete' (rent) column is for how many euros per month, and next to that of course is how many square metres..

And Sydney is incredibly expensive! So these cities in the Economist top ten are really only the top ten for people with fat wallets..

Top place for people with not-so-big-wallets: Sheffield and Exeter for me!

I loved living in Vancouver...I could work eight days a week and play the other two!

In my last job in L.A., I lucked out in that I had to travel to Vancouver twice a month and enjoy that great city with the company picking up the cost. Not only that, but the company I worked for had been bought by Sony which got me the Sony discount at a 5 star hotel Sony owned there so I only paid $100 a night for a $450 a night room. Unless I win the lottery I don't think I'll ever again stay in such luxurious accommodations.

I might pack up and move there then, pretty sick of things where I am!

I have visited Vancouver and Victoria--liked the latter much better. Better sense of history. Plus my creative role model, Emily Carr, lived there. :)

Tell us about Emily Carr, please.

I'm inclined to agree even though our visit was quite a few years ago.
