Monty Python's Libya by geordiegirl on 2 March 2011 12:01pm

Anyone seen 'The Guardian' today? Kate Adie has an excellent article about Libya. TV there has always been censored & restricted, but in the 1980s 'Monty Pythgon's Flying Circus' was hugely popular there. Libyans would watch it, nodding, and saying 'yes, that's our country'!

Amazing things happening in the Middle East. Can only watch TV, and hope. Some say it's 1989 all over again - up to a point! Let's hope for a quick & good outcome for the Libyan people, anyway.

How are you all these days? Kazz, little Ava must be quite a big Ava these days? I thought of you during the dreadful Australian conditions, though I know you're safe where you are.

I have a lot on, so haven't been on site, but for a couple of days I'm stuck in one room while new carpets are fitted. Nice to be chatting again, though, however briefly!

Hello Linda! How are you? Nice to see you here again.

I haven't seen The Guardian today but might try and get a copy on the way home, unless the article is online.

Linda, sweetie, good to see you--I was thinking about you today...:).

I hope that this is the beginning of a new day in the Middle East.

Maybe it wasn't Gaddafi, maybe it was a Monty Python sketch. Palin as Gaddafi and the rest of the crew jogging alongside dressed as bodyguards?

Maybe?

OK then, maybe not.

But I guess a golf buggy must be the equivalent of a mustang convertible or something like that, huh?

Well, thank you ladies: Sue, Kisch, Loretta! Yes, do email me.

Loretta - how do - don't think we've chatted before: read your link -interesting - yes, Gadaffi is certainly mad - I wonder if the Libyans in the 80s watching Monty P. identified him with Cleese/Chapman's barmy-army types.

Indeed, Fran, let's hope. Not a huge amount the international community can do right at this moment, eh? but watch & maybe offer discreet encouragement to the opposition. UNHCR doing a vital job, of course.

Hope you're all well - and, doubtless, as I am, always busy!

Take care.

Linda
