It Feels as though: by tucsonmike on 24 March 2011 12:05am

So much has happened already and it is only March. It feels as though it should be September. Just so much happening. Japan, Libya, revolts in the Arab nations etc.

I feel the same Mike. I have never known so much happening in such a short space of time. I think the unrest in the Arab nations is disturbing.
When I was in Istanbul teaching in a summer school, the students all had cell phones and access to the internet. They were no different in their outlook from the students that I taught here. Their parents had little idea of just what their children had been exposed to and I could see that sooner or later, there was going to be some sort of conflict between the generations. It is not surprising that the young of the Arab nations are dissatified with the regimes they live under or that some countries such as China have censored access to the internet.
Lets hope that things can change for the better before they get any worse.

I think we are going to see even more revolts.

There is sure a lot of unrest around in Arab nations at the moment. Pity those who are in power feel compelled to quell popular demonstrations with violence, as they have done in Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Yemen, and now Syria as well.

It all reminds me of 1968 when a new generation spoke up about things their parents had ignored.

Thomas Jefferson said we should have a revolution every generation. We are long overdue.

Yeah! You guys can have your revolution. We'll still get to see all the hockey playoffs. Let's not skip ahead to September, Mike, we deserve some summer.

LOL Pete, good point. I fear where this may go. Geraldine, we may get our revolution, well the beginnings were what is going on in Wisconsin.

I always thought that the best way to have a revolution was through the ballot box. The SNP managed it in Scotland.

Re: It Feels as though: by sighthound on 27 March 2011 12:20am

Ballot box revolutions are always the best but first, here in the U.S., we need a revolution in campaign financing so we can get people on the ballot who are not totally beholden to huge corporate interests, the "military-indudtrial complex" that Eisenhower, a very wise man, warned us about over a half century ago. Eisenhower would be shocked at how bad it has gotten. And now the traditional media which should be informing people has also been taken over by Murdoch, GE and other corporate interests which promulgate ignorance and the dumbing-down of our culture. Thank God for the internet; it's our main hope.

Adolf Hitler came to power via the ballot box.
