The Chatter Box : Blathering On
"Holy Flying Circus" by sighthound on 3 July 2011 10:47pm

This is promising. Hope they've got a good writer. And Stephen Fry as God - how delicious!

Sounds good!

I've been reading so much about it and I am totally jealous!! I want to escape and move to England!! I've always wanted to live in England. But hopefully it should be available some place after it airs for those who live outside the UK and whatnot, right?

Well, I have mixed feelings about this one. I don't think it will be a successful portrayal of Pythons - but I'll be happy to be proved otherwise.
The guy playing Eric does look like Eric a bit.
On the other hand there is a very good film about Peter Cook and Dudley Moore ("Not Only But Always") with Rhys Ifans playing Peter Cook (not the easiest man to play!) beautifully. Although maybe if I was as big fan of Peter's as I am of Pythons', I wouldn't think so. The tricky bit is, Peter and Dudley are long dead, Pythons luckily aren't apart from Graham.
We'll see.

mp_addict19: it will be available next day in the usual places, don't worry:)

I was amazed at how incredibly well Ifans "got" Peter Cook (the funniest man of the 20th century). I almost didn't watch it because I thought it would be absolutely awful but was pleasantly surprised. There were tacky bits, of course, but that was off-set by letting another generation get to know Cook's genius. (If you haven't seen the original "Bedazzled", go out and get it today! That a remake was done was a horrible sin. grrrrrr....)

I get the impression, since God will be a major character, that this one will not be a conventional biopic but will operate more in the realm of ideas so exact impersonations of the Pythons will not be as terribly critical (and who wants to spend time on impersonations when all the wonderful original material is so readily available?)

The key, as always, will be in the writing. I wish Tom Stoppard would take it on; he could make the story sing!

BTW, apparently the tv "debate" with Muggeridge and the Archbishop of Canterbury will be a focus of the film. I've found bits of it on YouTube but have never seen the whole program. Does anyone have a link to the complete show? I'd love to see it.

Geraldine, there is no complete recording of LoB debate available at the moment. I presume, some bloody collector is sitting on it and doesn't want to release it to general public. GRRR.
The most lengthy bit is I suppose is on DVD of Monty Python Almost The Truth.
And it was the Bishop of Southwark, btw (sorry to be a bore:)))

Was this guy stuck for something to write about and coming up to a deadline? It is certainly very complimentary and all, but he's quoting the Monty Python crew from DVD commentaries???? Serious journalism?

Sorry, maybe I am just being picky about it, but COME ON!
