Did Michael Palin always want to be famous? by Sophie-Louise on 26 July 2003 3:42pm

Hi all,

I was just wondering if Michael Palin always wanted to be famous and become what he is today, or did he dream of doing something else?

I doubt he wanted to be really famous, he just wanted to have fun! Monty Python must have been great to take part in, and rewarding enough without fame.
And with the Travels...well, it's again fun. I doubt Michael did it primarily for fame...I just think he wanted to do what he enjoyed doing, and that other people could enjoy it too...

Please may I be the first person to say I thought he wanted to be a lumberjack? Sorry ... um, didn`t he as a child fancy being an explorer but his dad told him everywhere had been discovered?

not everywhere?? there are still some parts of the world man hasnt reached?? Ok they are inaccessable but... !!!!! giggle

I think that with Michael, being so self effacing, that fame was the last thing on his mind, and is as thankful as we are the way things have turned out for him.
