This makes me sick by Izot on 27 March 2004 3:23am

Sorry to offend some people, but this just highlights the real terrorist threats. Why go overseas to nuke innocent people, for a cause that's found to be unreal, when the more horrific of crimes are being committed in your own country?

I'm not one for politics, but this makes me wonder what Bush is really doing for his country.

***once again, no offense to anyone, this article just made me feel sad for the families and friends lost***

Hi, Izot.

The story you linked to is terribly tragic. Now, bear in mind that I'm as big a GWB basher as anyone, truly. But the violence and gun problem in America goes back much further than GWB.

I recommend that you see Michael Moore's "Bowling for Columbine." View it with a little scepticism, because there are a few moments in which he goes off on unnecessary tangents (like the Dick Clark segment). But 95% of this film is spot on.

I guess GWB is sort of a charicature who represents the gun-totin' assh*le.

I'm only at page 16 of a fantastic book (well, I can honestly say the first 16 pages are smashing!) called "The Two Americas" by Stanley Greenberg. It illustrates that there are plenty of "cowboys" in this country but also plenty of us pinko-liberals as well.

We're not all like GWB, you've got to believe me. You know, I've lost count of how many times I've written that on this website alone!

Even people who voted for Bush are starting to see what an assh*le he is.
His recent joking about not finding the weapons of mass destruction sealed it.
On a recent edition of Democracy Now they interviewed a soldier who served time in Iraq, and recently lost his twin brother there.
He said Bush did not supply them with enough water, food and bullet proof vests. He calls Bush a liar. and went on to say the US needs a new leader. This is coming from someone who served.. eye opening.
Bush is a monster, pure and simple.
my two cents.

Cori and Izot--pick up a book called "Fortunate Son", too.
Cori-- i agree with your review of Bowling for Columbine...I will need to pick the Two Americas, I've heard good things about it. Have you read Molly Ivin's Bushwhacked?

And I agree Izot. Just recently in my neck of the woods there were two domestic dispute related murders. people are snapping... gotta look at the homefront, but that won't happen until Bush is out of office.
sigh. soon, soon, soon...
staying optimistic,
Helen

P.S. I'm american. I hate guns. I don't eat meat or fast food. BUT---I do have a four wheel drive pickup truck. It does NOT have a gun rack. :)
I have three pairs of wingtips, too....

Helen, you mean, you don't have an oversized Japanese SUV that eats up gas that supports the Saudis that support al-Qaida, with a little plastic 50-cent American flag on the aerial to show your patriotism?

>>>His recent joking about not finding the weapons of mass destruction sealed it.<<<

Absolutely. That was pretty stupid of him to do something like that, I mean didn't he cause a stir when he released those 9/11 ads for his apparent campaign?

>>>But the violence and gun problem in America goes back much further than GWB.<<<

Good point. I tend to forget the facts when I ramble. I guess GWB is in the wrong place at the wrong time on this issue, but it's still one he hasn't addressed.

>>>We're not all like GWB, you've got to believe me.<<<

Thank God for that. =D

Cori!!! You are too funny!!!!

and Izot, I believe not all Australians are like Steve "babysittter of the year" Irwin. Thank god for that, too. :)

Re: This makes me sick by George on 28 March 2004 11:59pm

GWB's comments at the dinner were very unfortunate and he is well aware of it. It was part of a "comedy" piece prepared for him in advance by some yuckster speechwriter that was lousy from beginning to end. Believe me, he is taking heat from everyone over it. Unfortunately, he can't take back what he said, but if he could, I know he would.

Re: This makes me sick by Helen on 29 March 2004 1:22am

...not so sure about that, George. He seemed to get a big kick out of it himself. he was an active particpant in the "joke."
It was an unfortunate event, yes. the fact that our president did not stop the joke, but in fact, willingly particpated in it makes it more than unfortunate. It is shameless, insensitive and sad.
