More On Getting Together and Sending Pics To Each Other by ellenpc on 4 December 2002 11:35pm

Lyn and I have been discussing this on the "First Day Of Christmas" thread and she kindly suggested I make it a new subject heading.......

"To throw in some ideas re the question of progress regarding get togethers..........

Idea 1:
We try for national get togethers first or even related districts, so, say all the London/South Easters meet up: all the Westcountry folk and so on and so on up the country. Taking it in more achievable chunks first. The East Coast of the Us, then the West Coast of the Us, then the Middly bits of the US???

All the different bits of Canada :-}.

Europe!! (sorry...too much marmite again!! Promise to behave..:-{)

"Ahh, u ummm" you know what I mean.......making it more realistic and achievable for all of us and then going for the big shebang in the future sometime.....( in all honesty, it pains me to be this sensible as I'd love to meet you all tommorrow....or better still, yesterday !! :-} )

Idea 2 :

We exchange photos of each other the good old fashioned way , by 'snail mail' so we can at least make a visual connection. When the Chat room is up and running we can each see who we're talking to and have a kind of "convention" that way perhaps???

This way it doesn't exclude those who don't have access to a digital camera and involves very little cash outlay.

Wouldn't it be fun to receive the pics in the mail???

The one problem I'm wrestling with, with this idea is one of privacy/safety issues regarding the exchanging of private e-mail info and avoidance of SPAM (internet, NOT the delicious meat product! :-} ) in this public forum.

What do you reckon?????????

(If anyone can offer some advice, it would be most appreciated as I would never want to suggest anything that could be unsafe for any of us and I'm a bit of a learner in net protocol!! :-} )

Since writing this last night, I've just read Patricks thread on his trip to the book signing and offer of photos.......
The reaction speaks for itself......those so far have had no problem with giving their e-mail addresses in order to arrange delivery , so can I assume that it's an OK way to proceed???

A national get together...that's interesting! I'm only 15 though and really, how many people in Canada go to this site??? But for people that live close in Europe, that'd be great!

Exchanging photos, I can't. I'm ugly. Lol. Anyone willing to try first? Saftey is a big issue. I don't know, I doubt "bad" people would come to this site or...I don't know...let's see some more responses.

yep , that sounds like a great idea, if we can't all meet then we can at least have an idea of who we all are!!

I was on a Sunset Boulevard website the other day and it had a members page where the webmaster had asked for and posted photos of the regular members and their interests on the one page. It was available only to signed up memebers so you could limit who could see them.

what about that?? If the webmaster doesn't want to set up something like that then i'm a programmer so could set up a simple site like that and post a link. Obviously with the blessing of webmaster and Michael and the help of Ellen

at least with the webpage thing then we wouldn't all have to post our mail addresses on this site.

let me know if you want to do this or even just need help doing it yourself!!

lol

I already posted on this under the other subject header, but since then I've read Kelley's response, and I think that's a wonderful way to do it. A lot simpler and easier and safer, I would think. If you would be willing to do a site like that, that would be great, Kelley!

Once again, although I couldn't make a limited site like that, I'm perfectly willing to do any organizing once we decide exactly what we're going to do. Just let me know. :O)

These are all great ideas. Sounds like we could use the help of... ta da!!
Suuuuuper Webmaster!
Maybe there is a way to send PMs? Private Messages? I belong to a siamese cat internet club, and we do that all the time... and we post photos. Usually of our cats. It's nutty, crazy....
I dunno. I'm not a techie at all, but Ellen, your ideas are fantastic. Maybe they will come into being.. I hope. And kelley's suggestions are awesome, too. Let's put our brains together! "My BRAIN hurts!!!"
NUUURSE!!!!
NUUUUUUUUURSE!!!!

i'm willing to set up that site if you want, i suppose i could enable us to post pics as well. but my only worry is that i'd be infringing on the webmasters space!!

Or maybe the webmaster has plans similar to this already??? i don't know. I'll wait for the go ahead anyway and then i'm sure there will be plenty of work to share around, everyone could get in on the design for a start.

away to watch life on air

Hi everyone,

Just a quick reply in regards to your questions about posting pictures here on Palin's Travels. We have previously thought along these lines, and are currently waiting for Michael's input on this topic.

Our hesitation is only due to the fact that this is primarily a travel site, and postings of a personal nature would alter the emphasis of Palin's Travels. However, as soon as we are able to gauge Michael's opinion on this possibility, we'll be sure to let you know.

Cheers,
Webmaster

It's great of you to help us out with this, and I'm looking forward to whatever response you can get us!

Yeah, I agree, it's really a traveling site, but maybe we won't need pictures, I'd love to just read about other people's travels. Maybe it'll just list the information about the user and if another person is interested in the...other person, then they could exchange e-mails, sort of understand what I mean?
