We've finally booked it! by infinity on 23 April 2004 3:20pm

I've not posted on this forum for ages but its good to be back. Thought I'd post this message here to as its a more active area of the site.

Well me and my better half have finally booked a trip of a lifetime for almost 6 months frrom Feb next year.

We start in Rio for the Carnival, then head straight to the Iguassu Falls. Then down into Argentina to the Valdez Peninsula and all the way down to Mount Fitzroy and the Moreno Glacier.

Then into Chile to the Torres de Paine National Park. Then we head back up the spine of Chile through the Andes past Santiago up to Bolivia. We go onto Lake Titicaca.

We now get to Peru where (if we have the energy left) we do the Inca Trail over 4 days up to Machu Picchu. We then round off South America in Equador and Quito!

We then leave South America and fly to San Francisco. We spend some time there then start another trip through all the National Parks of the US West, Yosemite, Grand Canyon, Zion, Bryce etc.. Las Vegas, LA and up the coast back to San Fran.

The hope is then to make it up to Seattle on the train or hire car. Then pop into Canada and Vancouver Island. And if we are really lucky we can book passage on a cheap boat up to Alaska and fly back.

We fly out of Seattle on July 13th back home to the UK!

What do you all think. Any tips and hints from anybody are greatly appreciated. And yes I am learning Spanish, just had my first lesson!

I keep think am I mad to spend all this money travelling?

I can't wait but my whole life is going to change overnight when I had in my resignation and leave for this big trip. I don't think either of us will be the same again.

hope the adventure of a life time was inspired by MP?? - waht a life changing decsion to make and good for you - we dont mind how many times you post here - please let us know how you fare on your travels - make a diary and send us snnippets and if you are still in the uk when MP does his booksignings for himalayas why not take a guide book that you will use or somthing along and get MP to sign it and tell him about your decision to go - he may be able to help you out with hints??

ONE LIFE - go for it - memories are more important than money in the bank!!

Yeah I suppose MP did inspire me to travel.

Ever since I was first spellbound by Around the World in 80 days I've had the travel bug. Yet going on holiday for a week here or there isn't good enough.

Yet this trip should help!

I already planning another after this one, I'd love to do Nepal, Tibet, China etc.

Thanks for the support, I will defo keep you all informed.

Oooooooo, you lucky, jammy b*****d!!

I change my desktop wallpaper every few months & I just changed it *today* to one of Basil's beautiful pix of Torres del Paine from "Full Circle - the Photographs". I chose the photo from page 4 in the top left corner & next time I change wallpaper, I'll use the one in the bottom left corner...

If you have any chance at all, please keep us posted on your progress during your Excellent Adventure!

Sounds great Infinity. You say you're worried that you're spending all that money on travel. What else are you going to spend it on?. I mean, in reality what else?. Certainly nothing as rewarding as all those experience you will have, i'm sure. If you need any advice, i can help with the north west Andean belt countries as i did a trip in that region around 1999 and enjoyed it.

>>>I already planning another after this one, I'd love to do Nepal, Tibet, China etc.

Woooooahh. Easy,tiger.
