Sophie I would try for something a little different from Veronicas (the large collection of bars and clubs in the resort of Las Americas) the national park Las Canadas.

This park houses Mount Teide (tallest mountain in all of Spain) you can reach the summit by Cable Car, and although surrounded by lava rock and craters the view is fantastic. If it is good enough for hollywood (some films have used this national park as a set) it should be alright for a day visit.

Alternatively there are the PYRAMIDS that are in Guimar (i think that is how you spell it it is a while since I have been). Or if you are a non believer then it is simply 'step farming' but it is a huge area with a similar look to the mayan temples.

Now i cant remember the name of the town but it is in the South (not that helpful then) but there is a walk you can do into a ravine that ends up with a spectacular waterfall. It has a name like Devils canyon or Hells Well or something it 'll be called along the lines of Terra de Fuego or something equally menacing but it really just is a nice walk off the beaten track.

My advice would be to see the Island hire a car and visit the other resorts like Los Gigantes or the Capital Santa Cruz and the Beach near there is class. It has imported sand from the Sahara and is normally populated by the locals menaing cheaper drinks and beach bars etc.

I wont bother explaining Las Americas as it is basically bars bars restaurants and more bars and clubs and is ever changing so if you want to get the skinny on that area you could ask a Holiday Rep.

I do hope you manage to get out and about and see the Island and of course see it from the sea there are normally pods of dolphins that can be seen if you take one of the organised trips.

Basically if you ask for Veronicas you should be well catered for for nightlife. Hope this helps you.

Oh yes, Sophie-lou, I love Switzerland a lot. And I remember you saying how much you wanted to get started exploring the world. You have a good start. I wish you so much luck and good times, both of you. It's good to know you and Thomas are still together and will be able to share so much together on your next jaunt. I looked at your pictures today and loved them. They remind me of the the excitement of being abroad and discovering the alpine regions. They just captured my soul.

Hi Sophie-lou.Try the resort of Puerto de la cruz in north of island. The contrast between north and south of the island is amazing!.Puerto is a lot more upper market than the southern resorts. It has great views of Mount teide. It is also home to a great wildlife park,a massive lido complex and just has a great atmosphere!.It is quite tropical too with banana's growing everywhere. If you have time or energy-go up Mount teide on cable car.It is Spain's highest peak and on a clear day you can see other Canary islands.Have fun!!.........Neil

patty, are you thinking of going to switzerland again? if so, you should visit saas fee in the summer or winter months, it is beautiful with some magnificent glacial and river landforms.
