Higher Education - anyone done it? by Izot on 17 August 2004 9:05am

I'm picking subjects for next year (year 12, last year of high school), and was just wondering how many of us Palinites have been through university or other tertiary education, or are thinking about it? What did you do/want to do?

:D

Yep, been there, done that - even bought the t-shirt (with names of graduates on back).

I did a Bachelor of Arts degree in Peace and Conflict studies.

*laugh laugh* it's conflict then peace, then?

I read English Language and Southeast Asian studies, had to learn a third language and went to Indonesia for a 3 week language and cultural immersion programme.

Advice from a moldy oldie ex-college student:
* find a good academic advisor at the college of your choice. there are some who might mislead you or discourage you. These are professional adults in academia who should know better. Shop around. Hit the door if they reek of disrespect.
* Do what you want to do. you are young, talented and hungry-- this is the time to do it.
* Don't be afraid to ask for help and guidance, weigh your choices carefully.
* You can always change your mind if something doesn't feel right.

Good luck, oh one of the calloused fingers.

I was educated higherly. I was a little irritated at the time that there wasn't much on offer after high school that was appealing. I'd had some very stressful years at that point and I didn't feel like asking for more.
The worst part was choosing the college. I went through reading all these descriptions of different colleges, and on paper they all seemed the same. It wasn't until I had gone and visited some of them before I could see any differences.
I went to a nice, 4 year college. I had a very good time, although academically, I was a blaze of mediocrity. In addition to getting a degree which got me my current job, I met friends with who I had more in common with than anyone I'd met before.
Helen's right- nothing's written in stone, so don't be afraid to change your mind about anything. -David
