Nobody deserves that, surely, lovely or not. Nature doesn't care either way!

Re: Cornwall Disaster by trishjune on 18 August 2004 5:28pm

I'll agree with that. Boscastle is on of Cornwalls' real unspoilt beauty spots and to see it so devastated is so sad. nature is an unpredictable thing at any time.

It's like George Carlin said. God put us here to make plastic. Now we've made enough plastic and God's done with us. We don't need to say "Save the Earth." Earth will still be here. We've got to save our own asses!

Sorry, I don't want to joke about the flash floods, I just find myself praying a lot lately, which is absurd for an agnostic.

Let's all skip our next trip to Starbucks or the pub and send some money to the Red Cross!

Re: Cornwall Disaster by Helen on 18 August 2004 5:46pm

I'm another agnostic---I've been praying too.
..and giving thanks for my health, my home-- and my retained sanity-- which is no small feat considering everything......
good idea about giving to the red cross. i second that.

Too bad about the floods, we saw them on TV, I bet the insurance companies are suffering in their jocks.

Re: Cornwall Disaster by gwen on 19 August 2004 4:30pm

Izot, there was a piece on BBC News website yesterday in which the insurance aspects were discussed, how many properties damaged, and to what extent. The piece contained this little gem:
"Liz Kennett, of Norwich Union [insurers], said the damage in Boscastle was more obvious with buildings that had been completely swept away."
Ah, yes, I see.
It's good to know that where insurance is concerned, we are in the hands of experts.
Oh no, wait! If a building has been completely swept away, won't they challenge you to prove it was ever there at all?

Re: Cornwall Disaster by Helen on 19 August 2004 4:47pm

Good lordy. To Liz of Norwich Union I say in my best Valley Girl accent,
"Like, uh-DUH!"

My thoughts to those afffected and to those caught between flood and landslide in scotland today too - when will this wet weather end - think a hurricane had something to do with it though, the one before charley.

Re: Cornwall Disaster by George on 19 August 2004 11:15pm

I've just been reading about it on the internet. What a shame.
