Canada in November - tips please! by kfuller on 24 August 2004 2:56pm

Hello!

I'm off to Canada for a week in Nov 04 and we're going on an organised tour to Montreal, Toronto, Quebec, Niagara Falls and Ottawa - does anyone have any advice on what to see and do to get an idea of some Canadian Culture - we don't want to stick to the tour all the time! Any advice is good! Thanks!

Hello!

I did an organised tour of Canada in October last year, covering much the same ground that you're going to be doing. I think you'll really enjoy it.

In Montreal there's a vast underground city, which is a network of shops and office at subterranean level. There's also the Olympic complex.

In Toronto, go up the CN Tower for the views. The glass floor at the top is fun, if not a bit vertiginous! At the top there's also a revolving restaurant.

Quebec City is a really lovely city, very French in style. Take the funicular from the lower town up to the Chateau de Frontenac. There are some excellent little cafes/restaurants in the lower town. The countryside just outside Quebec City is very scenic, especially during the Fall months Ile D'Orleans, linked to the mainland via a rather narrow suspension bridge (a bit hair-raising when another bus is coming in the opposite direction!).

At Niagara Falls the Maid of the Mist boat trip up to the foot of the falls is great fun, and you'll get rather wet!

Ottawa is, in my view, a really pleasant city. Very English-style, esp the Parliament Building - the guided tour of Parliament is good. The Canadian Museum of Civilisation in Ottawa is well worth a visit for an hour or two.

Have a great trip!

You should have a blast in Canada! We're all so friendly...Toronto is the New York of Canada; some places to check out there are Paramount Canada's Wonderland, The Art Gallery of Ontario, The Royal Ontario Museum, The Science Center, The Toronto Zoo,Medival Times, Chinatown and the Pacific mall. Don't worry though, you'll have a blast! Go Leafs Go!

Since you are heading there in November. Try and be around Ottawa on the 11th. Since it is our Remeberance Day cerimonies and i bet Ottawa had some real nice ceremonies. Then again i bet any Canadian City u are at will have those cerimonies but i think Ottawas will be the best. I think its on the Parliment grounds. Dont forget to see a Leafs game since thats Canadian Culture at its best. Although its no Calgary Flames (GO FLAMES GO!!!!)it is a great example of our culture. (Make sure not to wear a Senator's Jersey to a Leafs game tho)
Have lots of fun
Gavin
