The Chatter Box : Blathering On
John Cleese by fjw7 on 17 October 2004 4:13pm
Apologies if this has been mentioned somewhere but I seem to remember, deep down in the banks, that John Cleese once flew out to S.America to appear in an episode where he was sat at a table on a mountain when Michael Palin passed him. They just said 'Morning' to each other and John Cleese wasn't seen again on the show.

Could someone please advise if this happened? ( or is it just me ) In which show or series was it?

Sounds like Ripping Yarns to me. Was it from "Crossing the Andes by Frog"?
I'm only guessing.

Not Ripping Yarns, but it was in the Andes. Seem to remember Cleese was reading the paper. Palin was being taken by an indian guide with, I think, one solitary Llama. Passed him on a mountain path sat at a table outside some sort of basic Andean refreshment place. All that was said was 'Morning'. Palin looked at the camera and said something like 'strange people you meet up here' and that was it.

Desperately searching.

If it was South America perhaps it was his Hemmingway adventure?!?!

Not Hemingway either, much before it. Thanks for help anyway. Great TV quiz question! 'In what series did M. Palin and J. Cleese pass clean by each other in the Andes?'

I'm sure it's not Crossing the Andes by Frog, which I happen to have just seen!!But you maybe refer to the brief cameo he makes, of a passer-by, in the other ripping yarn, the "Golden Gordon" one.
There for sure Cleese is just passing by, and it's just a few seconds....but I don't know if it's in the Andes.

It was an episode of Ripping Yarns. I think it's the one where Palin's a crazed soccer team fan. They just pass in the street and say morning I think. It's not in the Andes.
