Mac and Cheese with.. get this... spam on top... by Helen on 26 January 2003 4:32pm

My dear friend's new boyfriend has informed her that 'she must try his mom's mac and cheese--- she puts spam on top instead of bread crumbs!"
This was a shock, of course.
Quandary; how does one politely say to the mother of your future husband, (she feels this is the ONE! hooray) that YOU DON'T LIKE SPAM without offending... she's trying to make a good impression.
what does she do? choke down the spam, therefore risking exposure to said nastiness for the rest of her life, or just scream in a shrill voice"I don't like spam!!!!!!"
any advice for my dear Cameron is appreciated.
Thanks.
Helen

My advice, lay low until 6 mos. after the wedding. (Future)Mother-In-Laws can be very tricky little creatures (thankfully, mine lives over 2,000 miles away). Choke down the SPAM until the vows are well behind you and they're too busy concentrating on you making them grandparents. If it's too much for you to stomache, then tuck it in a napkin when no ones looking.....I suggest pointing out random objects during dinner and hiding the offensive meat(?) while they're distracted..."Would you look at that tap dancing squirrel!?!"
I, myself, actually like it fried with a bit of mustard and melted Sharp Cheddar Cheese.
Sorry :-O
kisses,
trixi

Way to ruin a good cheesy meal. *sigh*

I have no advice on the subject, as I've never had to deal with future mum-in-laws, but I pity the poor, poor girl.

Helen, what a quandry! Advice as follows>>>
Go on as you mean to finish!! If you bow down and accept Spam at this early stage you will forever be in it's constraints!!
I have been married for some 14 years so I speak from experience.
DON"T DO IT! Stand up for yourself from word go!
Alternately, show your future mother-in-law your IDLS membership card, badge and T-shirt.
This should permantly diffuse the situation.
The best of luck!!!
See ya...Karen

Mary-- Can Cam and I be officially initiated into the IDLS club?
What do we need to do?

Oh yes, Helen! The IDLS is always looking for new recruits! We welcome you with open arms! You need do nothing but desire to join!

Of course, to keep your membership active, you must continue to disdain Spam and all related. Using the phrases "I Don't Like Spam!" and "Follow the Gourd!" (following in Graham's footsteps, of course) when times are tough will also help.

*sniff* This is so touching. I say we let them in, Dianne! :O)

~Mary (I really am a loony, aren't I?)

(Membership card? Ye gods, don't encourage me! LOL!)
