Confession!! by Spursfan on 30 October 2004 6:40pm

Ok ok, I have a confession to make!

I have two-timed Michael today!

I went to see Tony Robinson - he of Baldrick and Time Team fame - signing his latest book in Ottakars Stafford!!

We (my husband, 13 year old granddaughter Sophie, 12 year old grandson Simon and I) were 3rd in the queue; when TR arrived he was laughing and joking and then said 'Lets kick ass!'. When it was our turn someone (assistant or wife???) gave him some Smints, and he offered us 4 some! Simon had one, then said 'I have a cunning plan!' (his catchphrase) to which TR said 'Oh have you?' and laughed!

He took the time to ask how we spelt our names - yes I know MP did too in the sense you had to write it down!!). A lot of people assume it's Ann not Anne!!

He was extremely friendly, laid back and funny - a very nice bloke in the MP mould.

Anne xx

I saw him in the Black Mountains of Wales about 2 years ago. He was there on Holiday with his family who arrived in a car. He was wearing a Time Team baseball cap, so it did'nt seem he was trying to hide away. But i refrained from saying something absurd like "I have a cunning plan,my lord". So i just said hello as a normal person and walked on and left him to his holiday.

If that was supposed to be some sort of snide comment about something my 12-year old grandson decided to say (with no prompting) - bully for you! Hope you're proud! TR actually thought it was funny - though I'm sure he hears it all the time - and replied in kind. Far from being 'an absurd comment' I feel it showed that he knew who TR was! Maybe if we - the adults - had said it, then it would have been OTT I grant you - but for a kid....

Nobody - well no sane person - wants to disturb "celebs" when they are in civvys so's to speak - but he was 'on duty' signing his book and knew he was fair game.

He was a nice bloke who took the comment in the way in which it was meant. Shame you couldn't do the same....
