The Chatter Box : Blathering On
I could not help my self!! by JAC on 9 February 2003 11:27am
Hi just thought that I would start another thread. I had to share......I am still shaking and my palms are still sweating.....and it nothing to do with the fact that it is 41oC here in Perth.
Well here goes, I am such a bad parent, I thought that we should have some family time being sunday and all and I thought what better place than the museum and art gallery.
This had nothing to do with the fact that Michael was appering in this vicinity for the writers festival.Nothing at all, do you believe me????
I thought I would see if there were any tickets for him, no nothing, apparently they sold out in 1hr which is why I could not get one. I loitered for a while, as you do, to see if I could see the man come into his talk.(the kids were climbing walls, bored and the husband was not much further behind) I was close to tears, one of those irrational moments of disappointment. But then like a light of ispiration I went up to the library...Michael was going to be signing his book after his talk.Fate it is meant to be. Shopped and wandered for an hour and then went back to the library. A few people milling around with the same intention. Great only had 40 mins to wait with the family in tow ( husband being in charge of the camera) Then a whisper, he would only be signing Sahara...Oh no I had Around the World in 80 Days..I was not going to buy Sahara, I've already got it. I know I will let the kids push in so I have to chase them.. I stun my self with my own brilliance.
The beings in charge started arranging the line, with a view that 400 people from his talk would be coming to the library too. My heart was pounding would they turn me away because I had the wrong book???We then were allowed to start cueing. The other people that were there before me let me go in front of them. I WAS FIRST IN LINE!!!
But I still had the wrong book the rumour was getting stronger, I stood my ground, I was not going to back down I was going to give it my best shot. Then some one came by and wrote my name on a sticky label and put it in my book, things were looking good and then..........................................................................r u still waiting? ...............

My husband called me look, it was like one of those romantic movies where time slows down, outside there he was striding towards the library doors, suave, confident, a wide smile and then HE WAS IN THE BUILDING.
The chains swept back we were free to move forwards..I froze my heart was racing, the palms were sweating, my mouth was dry.
I walked up, he was still standing, searching for his glasses in his numerous pockets in his beige cargo pants (blue shirt and white loafers for those interested).I offered him my glasses, I did not mind going blind, he smiled..wow what a smile, so real and genuine. He opened my book and I stuttered wth please and thank yous then I asked him if he enjoyed his bottle of Cloudy Bay, I was thinking of you in NZ, he said that he had not drunk it yet and thank you for asking and he nodded knowingly when I said about the web site. I asked him if I could get picture of course the answer was yes, he is so nice. It then finished with me putting my hand on his arm and wishing him a nice stay in Perth and then I was swept away as the next people in line got there turn.
Wow I am still on a high and I am going into town tomorrow to the ABC shop with my copy of Sahara to do it all again, hopefully I will not stutter as much I felt like a right dill but the was so much acceptance from the man. He is so special, and I feel special because of the experience too. When I get my pics developed I will share too.

Lot of love
Julie xxxx
