Blathering Idiot at the Canterbury Book signing by mamadanielle on 22 June 2005 8:49pm

Hi everyone (and Micheal, should you ever read this?)
I went to the Canterbury books signing today to get my treasured copy of the Himalaya photograph book signed. I was so excited about it. I stood in the blazing sun for 3/4 of an hour in anticipation. I took my camera in the vain hope of getting a photo of myself and Micheal but I wasn't sure if it was appropriate to ask. When I got to about 5th place in the queue I was surprised to find how nervous I was at the prospect of meeting the great Palin! I wanted to say so much, I was planning it in my head. Should I ask for a photo? Were there too many people waiting for me to waste his time? Oh decisions. Luckily the man in front of me asked for a photo and no one minded so I decided to go ahead. Finally, my turn. I asked one of the book shop staff to take the photo and before I even said hello to Michael I wizzed round the other side of his desk to pose. Unfortunately Micheal was looking down at my book when the shutter snapped so the photo is just of the top of his head with me leaning in grinning like a cheshire cat! The only words I managed to splutter out where "oh thank you Micheal I'm a huge fan!" To which he very politely replied "Why thank you, it's good to see you". And that was it. It was all over so quickly! I wanted to say how much I enjoyed the book, how I've read every one and how I am a fellow northerner! But it wasn't to be. It must be very hard work for him to do these book signings, I'm so pleased with my signed copy and my dodgy photograph! Micheal I'm so pleased I was able to be a blathering idiot in front of you!

Lol, mamadanielle it sounds as though you had a good time. Everyone gets nervous when they are around their idols and even though you only got the top of his head, I personally feel the top of his head is one of his best features!

I'm still jealous - I haven't got to meet him at all yet - I'd die for a pic of me and the top of his head. One day! Well we all have dreams

To be honest, I half hope I never meet MP, knowing that I'll be dissappointed with myself afterwards.

I agree, I think all angles and sides of Michael are fab! He's not thinning on top is he?

I wonder if at his age he dyes his hair? That's not meant to be rude by the way.

Lol, I think that's an absolute certainty. If I recall during P2P, he bought some hair dye into the bath with him.

Glad you got your pic mamadanielle, albeit one of the top of his head. Beats nothing!

Well I would say madadanielle that by meeting MP you've certainly got "ahead" of some of us who still haven't met the great man

He certainly does dye his hair. I sat directly behind him at a lecture and he must've just done it before arriving. He should have checked his neck and wiped it with a towel before leaving the hotel room. lol But he was still adorable.

Gotta dash, having my, er, hair dyed....
