The Chatter Box : The Series
Basil Pao by Ahren on 23 June 2005 8:37pm
Well, one of the things that makes the books and series so good are the photos. They seem to capture a moment in time and is like a snapshot of that culture. They're so bright and colourful, and so full of life. It's as if you could be sucked into that place just by looking at them!

I'm finding it really hard to express what i mean, so I'll just say that i reckon Basil deserves some recognition too!!

A photograph is worth a thousand words.
A good photograph is worth 5000 words.
Basil Pao's photographs are worth innumerable words.

Certainly does. A relative got the large Basil Pao Himalaya photo book last Christmas, and it's incredible. What i found very interesting,is how with all the text at the back of the book it seems he was affected by the Himalaya experience in a deeply "spiritual" way, more than Michael. Or,if Michael did experience it in that way, he was less likely to be upfront about his feelings, given his comedy past. Basil seemed like the silent observer, and experienced a different Himalaya.

I agree with Godfather, Basil has clearly a spiritual, verging-on-the-mystical approach. While it's not easy to grasp who Basil really is, given the little that we see of, and hear from him, it's interesting to see how Basil views things and places differently from Michael. Himalaya confirms that he perhaps deserves more attention.

Every few months I change my desktop wallpaper to another stupendous Basil Pao photo from this site. Thanks, MP & BP, for sharing your works with us!!
