Richard's final Countdown by perfectbitch on 28 June 2005 11:16am

Just a line to say how sad to lose his life so young. I used to watch sometimes and my kids used to compete against each other with the maths. Condolences to his family.

I agree. He came across as such a nice friendly chap.

Countdown will not be the same without him - he seemed so comfortable in his role as presenter/chairman, whatever. He really made the show his own. Oh and those puns - some of which were so clever!

I wonder if they'll carry on with the show - I know they had people lined up to sit in 'Richard's Chair' while he was ill. Will it ever be the same?

He'll be sadly missed.

Yes he will. Watch Countdown now and again and it won't be the same.

I know he's known for countdown, but he was also an excellent reporter - a tragic end to one so young - TV doesn't have enough people on it that have infectious smiles and warm, kind personalities. Helen.

I was very lucky to have been to the countdown studios last december - i was there for a recording with russell in dictionary corner - and i saw the whole week of countdown recorded in two sessions that day - it was fascinating to see how the programme evolved - i have been a fan of countdown for years and of russell too - i met Richard and he very kindly signed his book * him off* for my mother - i will treasure that - it was such a memorable day for me - i have one or two photos of richard and the studio - they gave us permission to do so and were very good about everything - there were lots of students in the audience - i some how managed to be on the tv when it was broadcast in january this year for 4 of the 5 days

RIchard was quite often on other programmes - like liverpool cathedral christmas concert last december - i feel for his partner katherine too - he was taken too soon and will be missed but will leave a legacy and presence and memories for us all.
