Olympics 2012 - London ** by Katie J on 6 July 2005 3:30pm

Very, very pleased that London has managed to secure the Olympic Games for 2012. I work in the Canary Wharf area and it will be fantastic to see the improvements made to the East of London. I do not have a problem with the increase in taxes as they will benefit the city itself.

Also pleased that it is coming here as it will hopefully breed greater interest in sport in this country and inspire the next generation of Olympians!

It should be a real spectacle and I think London will do itself proud!

Commiserations to the other cities that lost out...but I'm sure they'll be back!

Katie. :0)

I'm very happy for all those taking parts and all Brits, in general. When Houston was eliminated a couple of years ago, most of us gave a huge sigh of relief because it would have meant a terrible strain on our transportation systems, hotels, security, etc. But, London is so big, it can absorb all the hub-bub and everyone can still enjoy it.

The host country always get to introduce a "demonstration" sport in the hope that it will be permanently adopted into future Olympic Games. In '96, Atlanta introduced bowling, but for some reason it didn't catch on. I wonder what Britain will do? Any ideas?

Also, the host country must participate in every sport. So, now is your opportunity to take up archery, pistol shooting, kayaking, or whatever, for a chance to make the team, in case you're not a world class athlete. You get a really nice kit and a chance to march in the opening ceremony. What ever happened to Eddie the Eagle? Y'know he'll be ready.

OOOOOOO I know!!!! New sports...

How about.....

Being the most chav (*ahem Beckham*).

This will involve:

1. Dressing up in the shiniest and most disgusting tracksuit available;

2. Wearing as much gold (bling) as you can physically handle;

3. Drinking as much of the worst cider available without being ill;

4. Smoking as many Lambert & Butler cigarettes as you can in half an hour;

5. Having as many children by the earliest age .... etc etc!

For each bit of chavness you will get judged and marked, then the points will be combined to find the king/queen of chav!! I think that England will have a pretty good chance of winning this one!

: )
