Passport Office Appointment by perfectbitch on 12 November 2005 9:46am

I had to apply for a fast track passport which guarantees delivery within a week. This entailed telephoning the offices to get an appointment. The instructions were not to arrive more than 10 minutes before the appointment time. So, I dutifully waited outside for 15 minutes before I ventured through the automatic doors. I was immediately greetied by an overassertive voice asking, "What time is your appointment?" The small, stocky, dishevelled looking lady glared at me until I replied, at which point she pointed to a line of about 10 anxious looking people and bellowed the order, "Go the the end of that line."
I joined the queue and we stood there until the dragon lady was told to let us through the maze of red taped walkway to a security check. This was just like airport security and they x-rayed my handbag while I passed through a METAL DETECTOR!!! Then I was ushered to a counter which issued me with a nubered ticket and directed to a waitimg room on the 2nd floor. After a few minutes, an electronic voice directed me to another numbered counter where I handed in my application form and photos etc. I then had to join a queue for another counter where I paid.
I have to say that this was very efficient but very daunting and it was difficult not to feel like a criminal with all the aggression at the beginning of the process. Anyway, I'm off on 23rd to Tunisia - my 1st proper holiday in almost 5 years and I'm really getting excited now. I'm such a kid. Linz

Oh I HATE going through customs, you feel like you've done something wrong even when you haven't done! It's those beady eyes..........

Well, the holiday sounds like fun, but the dragon lady sounds like an uncivil servant with too much power.
