Competitions? by rick694uk on 18 October 2002 8:43pm

Webmaster,

Are there any plans for competitions on the site? The prizes being: signed pics, site t-shirts, or signed trinkets from Michael's travels maybe, etc, etc. Or, if the site has the capability, such things could be auctioned and the proceeds donated to Michael's favourite charity?

Maybe a good competition would be: we all make suggestions as to what we think would be a good idea for Michael's next series? Michael selects his top-ten/three favourites, then we all vote. (But with one registered user-one vote proviso!) The person who suggests the winning idea, and/or the one that Michael selects, gets to meet Michael on his departure, or even to appear briefly in that series?

How about I start?

Michael Palin's Time Machine. Michael goes back through history and visits places that have figured significantly in history. Maybe one century per episode? He covers: famous people - and any living relatives, or residents of the places they once lived; works of art and literature - and how they were received through time; buildings - and how they may have changed; places - and the importance they played in history.

But I particularly like the idea of competing or bidding for trinkets from Michael's travels! Just a suggestion.

Cheers,
"portfolio" Rick, from Nottingham
(Michael may remember - sorry Michael!)

Great idea but for those who can never afford anything at auction but would like to enter why not have a prize draw - thats if we have to pay to enter at all? why not give out questions on michael and the first correct entries out of the hat ie 5 win something? it would be a great way to Touch Lives if all fans could enter and have the chance to win not just those with money?

The idea is brilliant but lets include everyone with a fair chance - Michael is meant to be shared - he is such a smiley happy person, if you see someone without a smile give them one of yours!

Yep, fully agree Lyn. A competition for all is the best option. I'm sure we'd all love the chance to win some small article that once belonged to the great man.

To be honest, I was pushing the charity idea, in the hope that Michael is further recognised for his charity work and so becomes Sir Michael! :)

I wasn't trying to exclude anybody from entering the comp's. Hope I'm forgiven?

Rick and all - at the risk of sounding awfully negative regarding the competitions idea, may I say: We Palinites are lucky to have this site, should we therefore expect Michael, and his web team, to fund and administer a competition page?

I apologise if my comments seem harsh. Regards to everyone!

I like the idea of everyone giving their thoughts on possible topics for coming series; how about,

Palin's Pantry: A collaboration with Delia Smith (as he seemed to keep mentioning her in the first episode of Sahara), where Michael and Delia cook dishes from his travels, everything from skinned snakes to boiled camel head.

No more ideas anyone?

Well, lets see...he's always tried to stay on the ground/sea. So what about.

Palin's Highs and Lows: Michael takes a trip from as deep in the Earth as he can, say the bottom of a volcano or the depths of the ocean.....then travels to the peaks of mountains or even takes a trip in the highest flying balloon or plane.

I really like the idea of Palin's highs and Lows! He does seem to be getting more extreme.

I think he would be good at a "Dice Man" series, only problem is its been done b4.

Palin Extreme: palin travels to the hottest, coldest, most dense, least dense populated, wettest, dryest etc etc places in the world. But we dnt want our idol to get hurt tho do we?

Great Sonia...Lets keep them coming people.

Palin GOES Full Circle: Michael re-visits places from his travels, to meet again the people of these countries, to find out how their lives and homes have changed.
