Ideas to Sponsor Get Together. by tucsonmike on 6 April 2006 7:40am

I wanted to start a separate thread where we could more easily keep track of what we came up with. Now I promise I will go to bed.

I had a quick look at the Make Poverty History website. There are several organisations who campaign, including Friends of the Earth, Oxfam, Action Aid, Christian Aid, etc. so I think we would really have to choose a charity or share the proceeds of our fundraising between a few.

If we do meet up together in one particular country, I suppose we could do something like sponsored walks with a theme (don't quite know yet!). Not a very original idea, I know. If we are fit enough, that is! Someone on this site is driving round the whole coastline of Britain for charity.

Maybe some of the proceeds could fund Ahren's trip at the same time!

Without wanting to sound like a broken record may I again suggest FARM-Africa as both a signed up member of the Make Poverty History campaign and one of Michael's favoured charities. Also I note on the MPH website that they are supporting a WaterAid campaign and from prior experience I can also recommend WaterAid very highly.

Yes, WIA, it looks like FARM-Africa would be the best one, seeing as it is one of Michael's favourite charities, and being signed up and all that. I was just making some more suggestions so people can mull over them.

Do you know if they still have the Buy a Goat scheme?

Yes I believe they do but suggest a visit to their website www.farmafrica.org.uk to get an update on their programmes and fundraising schemes.

I saw that Wild, if I had only read down a little further before I went to bed. Hmmm
let us see what we can work on and figure out ways how:
1. We are going to do it.
2. Get publicity.

I only thought of writing to Bono after my friend Rita sent me the site. I thought of it as a quick way to build publicity. It is not set in stone. If Wild has a way to contact them, go for it.
I figured though, Anne would enjoy writing the letter to Bono. Maybe Geraldine can help with this too.
We can have a lot of fun with this, gain publicity AND do something useful if we lay some ground work and credibility.

Sorry I haven't been able to do anything about this yet as I have been in bed poorly (just come on line briefly to check out emails etc).

Keep me informed please as to what you want to do.

Anne

Well I certainly hope you feel better soon.

I wouldn't expect Michael to participate in any of these, his secratary said that he is just going to stick to the ones that he is already with if that was your intention.
