Proper weather/climate information by JF on 18 June 2006 11:55am
Has anyone got any links to some reliable weather and climate information websites?

I'm fed up with most of the massed generalities available. It's like getting a politician to give an answer.

Surely there is something out there in internet-land that can tell me what the weather is like in x city or y region at a particular time of the year.

We're not ignoring you, JF!

I found a site that can give you some basic weather information for specific cities worldwide. Try World Weather at http://www.worldweather.org.

At the site, under Official Forecasts, click the region you want. In the Country list, click the country you want. In the City list, click the city you want. Below the 4-day Forecast, you will see Climatological Information. The default for temperature is Celsius, but if you click the C, you can get it in Fahrenheit.

For example, I checked Athens, Greece and found the Daily Maximum temperature for June is 88F. It also gives rainfall averages in both MM and number of days. In June, Athens gets an average of 10.6mm over 3.7 days.

Now, if I just understood the metric system well enough to know how much 10.6mm is! :)

Hope that helps!

Most countries also have their own national weather service websites. A couple:

Hi JF. The last paragraph of your posting has prompted this weather report for Scotland.

In Scotland during June the sun shines all the time.
Unless it is raining!

Hmm, its like that on Denley Moor, always raining, except on days when it wasnt.
Seriously though, Scotland in summer can be pretty hot and sunny.

Also our digital Sky Travel channel used to show a view over about 5 or 6 cities of the world on the hour at times. We now get Sky 3 instead and that facility is not transmitted on that channel, from as much as I've seen of it.
