DVDs for North America

Dear fellow Palin fans:
I'm sure I am not the only one in Canada that supremely enjoys the various travel series Michael has done. I already own the Himalaya and Sahara series on DVD, but am trying to locate DVD's of the earlier series such as Full Circle, Pole to Pole, Around the World in 80 days that are compatible for Canadian region DVD players. I see that the BBC UK website offers a great DVD package that includes all of his series to date, but BBC Canada does not have a version for Canada - ridiculous that there are multiple formats like this. Does anyone know where/when this might be available?
Cheers,
Kurt |

Your best bet is to buy the UK versions and either set your computer to read them or buy a DVD player that can be set to region "0" which will play everything. I'll try to find a post from a few days ago about a Phillips player available for about $60 which can be set to "0". The post has instructions on how to do it. (And if you search WAY back in the posts, there's one which tells you how to reset your computer; I don't remember how to do it but, computer illiterate me managed to do it from the directions.)
P.S. Just found the Phillips post and brought it forward. Check under "The Series". |

You will just have to be patient. I am betting we will see all the series on region 1 by the end of 2008. I will wait for the inevitable box set. |

..go for the Phillips multi-region DVD player...I finally gave up and bought one (it is inexpensive) and it is great... I can get dvd's from any world region and can play them... better than waiting years for US or Canada to get the Palin discs to market.. |

Hey everyone. I bought the UK boxset because I simply couldn't find 80 Days and PTP anywhere in the US. I assume the boxset will eventually be available here, but I didn't want to wait. I believe at the time I bought the boxset, only Sahara and Himalaya were available on Amazon.com. As for DVD players, there are tons of them that can be made multi-region. Some like the Philips, are super easy, and some like my pricey Sony, require replacing parts on circuit boards. I'm quite impressed by the Philips unit. The playback quality is quite good. |

Buying a DVD player with a 0 country-code option aside, has anyone heard if and when Around the World in 80 Days, Pole to Pole, and Full Circle will be available in North America? Many thanks.

I've got my name on Amazon's list to be notified as soon as the 80 Days DVD is out, but I'm anticipating a long wait. Correct, only Sahara and Himalaya are on DVD at Amazon, and Hemingway Adventure on VHS on the PBS site(or if you're desperate enough to cheat, as I was, downloading the four episodes in order to burn them to DVD). I don't blame those who don't want to wait...I've seen the clips for each and am eagerly looking forward to seeing the other five shows in their entirety. |
