Malaysian toilets always a bad and terrible experience......I have Crohns disease and it means food is badly limited so a turn like poor rtw would have annhilated me totally!

I flew home from Paris CDG on 13th September 2001, 2 days after the World Trade Center attacks.

Firstly, flights were delayed, and there was nowhere to sit before check in. I needed the loo, food and drink but I couldn't leave my huge bag with anyone to look after. The guy next to me kept leaving his bag and wandering off, so a group of guards questioned me several times with guns pointing at me.

Next, a scary lady with a walkie-talkie came over and babbled at me in French, from which I distinguished the word 'evacuate'. I was the first to be evacuated while they carried out a search of an abandoned bag. This meant that no-one could check in for 2 hours.

Once we did check in, the queue for the security check was ridiculous. They were rushing people through so as not to delay flights. I put a bag through the machine containing a small frying pan (long story). They didn't even look twice, even though it came up as a solid white circle on the x-ray!

Then in the departure lounge, newspapers were strewn everywhere with photos of the planes flying into the twin towers. Needless to say, it was a tense journey home!

Oh, and never use the toilets at the bus station in Caltanisetta in Sicily. I went in there and almost got electrocuted, never mind the hygiene!
