Yes! YES! I read a lot of diaries & this is, without exaggeration, one of the best I've read. This guy WRITES so well. Do treat yourself, Blairhoyle!

Yes, really wonderful book. Some of the stories (like of his 30th birthday) are so sweet! Mr Palin sure knows how to write.

As of most of his books there is an audiobook version read by himself available too. It's a charming way to cover endless hours on the motorway:

I've only listened to one audio book by him: Sahara. When I bought Pole to Pole I had a little trouble deciding if I wanted to actual book or the audio book, but I choosed the book. If I had choosed the audio book I would have finished it in one day or 2, but I wanted it to last a little while :-)

Well, you could ask him to speak more slowly ;-). But yes, reading a book in your cosy reading corner at home has a quality of its own. Nevertheless, for filling the stupid hours of car driving with something useful, audiobooks have certain advantages.

Aww, I'd forgotten about his thirtieth birthday story in the diaries...one of my faves of his stories in there. But really, they're all good. He can really write well.
