The heat generated would help save on heating costs.

But what about the air pollution caused by burning the ink and paper? ;-)

OK, I'd keep another million to pay for the cost of recycling the smoke!

Buy Tottenham Hotspur for a start.

I'd have my own plane too - a jumbo or A380, fitted with sumptious bedrooms, posh seating areas with wide screen tv/dvd, and luxury bathrooms. Meals would be cooked freshly onboard by top chefs. The plane would have all the latest safety and anti-terrorism equipment fitted, and it goes without saying that it would be flown by the world's top pilot.

[Can you tell I have just endured 4 hours in a plane with my knees crushed into the seat in front (and I am 5' 5" - imagine being over 6'!!)?? Thank goodness there was no emergency because it would've been impossible to get into the 'brace' position!!!]

Sorry to be a boring old fart.
But firing that amount of money into the 'System'(because it is a system)is a waste of time. There is a possibility that if you did not fiddle with a country's finances but boosted all their achievements over the last max.10 years you might find a few things to celebrate across the separate continents.
But,I'm afraid it would be the bank of me and my mattress for a while, with my nose pressed to somebody's ceiling...Sorry my ceiling.

Anne--I had the same problem flying to California from New Jersey last August. I had to lean back to stand up, I couldn't reach my bag under the chair because I couldn't lean forward far enough, and by the time the flight was over, every joint in my body ached. I sat there thinking, "No wonder John Cleese flies first class everywhere--he *has* to!" The rattly little prop plane I took from Hartford to Newark had more leg room!

We have flown with this company loads of times - Onur Air, they are Turkish. They still had the 'first come first served' policy with extra legroom places instead of charging for them (also 20 kg instead of 15 kg baggage allowance) so we have always got there early and got extra legroom, including the outward journey. Got there this time to fly back and ask for exit seats, to be told that they were available for sale at £10!! I argued a bit, saying we hadn't had to do it before, and that on the way out we didn't have to pay but she said that it had been policy FROM Turkey since the beg of the season (couldn't argue there as last time we'd flown with them was April; in June we flew another company).

Didn't want to pay on principle (though next time we will book them). Also because there were only a few people going back (160 or so) they had put on a really rubbish plane. An M-D83 or 82 I forget.

I know that if anything DID happen there is really not a lot you can do, but when are these flight companies going to realise that stuffing people into planes like that is lessening their chances of survival? Usually I reckon that a row of seats should be removed. but this time I reckon 2 AT LEAST!!

Next thing to go will be the 20kg allowance. They have already stopped serving meals (though you can buy snacks - at a premium price of course!), and there is no entertainment.

No wonder I want my own luxury plane!!

;)

You get what you pay for Anne, that's why I always fly 1st class or, at a push Business class. Also, it's quite satisfying to think of the plebs packed in like sardines behind me.

Yeah right.

If I had my way I'd fly Emirates everywhere - even 'cattle class' is superb and I have flown business with them too (Dubai - Delhi).

Sigh....

Since you're known to be a tight wad, I take it you got a free upgrade to business class.
