Mag 7.8 earthquake off the South Island, New Zealand. Anyone down there affected by it?
It was undersea and the tsunami alert was withdrawn after a short time. Most of the South Island felt it. Aftershocks still possible.

Thank goodness my sister, nephews and great-nephews/nieces live on the North Island (Wanganui and Taupo).

I haven't heard whether they felt it or not.

We were issued a tsunami alert late yesterday along the east coast of Victoria, also Tasmania and Norfolk and Lord Howe islands but it was downgraded last night.

Aftershocks of Mag 6, 5 and 4.7 all recorded at the same location in the past 24 hours with other rumblings around the pacific rim.

The earthquake zone in New Zealand has been quiet for a day. It looks like the tremors have stopped.

There used to be two Palinites who posted here frequently. One, Ellen, was from Christchurch, on South Island, but I'm not sure where Diane lives. Kaz, I can't remember Diane's username, can you? I bet Uncle Tony can!!!! lol.
Re: WHAT a week!! by kazzzz on 18 July 2009 12:58pm
I just bet he can yes ;)
So can I! Ellen was 'ellenpc' and Dianne was 'Dianne'. She was from South Taranaki.
Neither have posted for years though.

Ok, then I guess Dianne didn't feel the quake but maybe Ellen did. Just curious.

Well just a little update on our hideous landlord situation.
After we were taken to court coz the landlord thought he could send anyone onto the property for any reason whenever he wanted to (turned out he couldn't and was told anyone coming had to be approved by us with 7 days written notice) he's managed to break his own court order 9 times in the last month. So back to court we went ( instigated by him when we decided 9 breaches were enough and denied him access).

Bet he wishes he'd never bothered, His real estate agent turned up with no documentation or evidence of anything. We turned up with photos of breaches, letters promising appointments that were unkept, a full diary of all his breaches, plus more. LOL!
The judge has given us a ruling in writing that is pure gold. It details how much we are being harassed and suggests that we go back to court for "substantial compensation" and has made all her findings available for a further court appearance. Super!
When asked where the landlord actually was (coz he was supposed to be in court) the agent looked at the floor and mumbled that he was holidaying in Queensland.

We are actively seeking a new place to move to, have 7 or 8 weeks. This is the tricky bit.
